The Land of Opportunity

We are still recovering from the economic and political disaster that was caused by the bombing of the World Trade Centre on September 11th, 2001. In 2006 the DJIA finally broke through the 11,000 level something that seemed unthinkable only a few years ago. The country's GDP is at an all time hgih and our growth bests that of most other developed countries. THe average American has not felt this so called recovery, wages have hardly risen in the past 6 years and with inflation on the rise our standard of living is very slowly decreasing.

On the other hand corporate america is profiting extremely well. The typical american executive is making 110 times the average salary as opposed to 40 times less than a decade ago. Home Depot fired their CEO for incompetence and was granted a small severence package of $210 million. Our Gini Index which measures the distribution of wealth is leaning far from the rest of the developed world.

Is America no longer the land of opportunity?
